Stasia Timan
Play therapist
Play is considered to be the language of children because by using toys and art, children are able to effectively express their thoughts and feelings in a manner that is most comfortable to each of them. Given that it is difficult for children to articulate their thoughts and emotions through language, this approach looks at a child’s unique developmental level and allows them to resolve psychosocial difficulties through play as a therapeutic process.
Stasia's integrative approach to counseling is grounded in person-centered therapy, child-centered play therapy, object relations and attachment-based play therapy, psychodynamic theory and attachment theory.
Stasia continues to be very passionate about incorporating play when working with children. Stasia has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and human development and family studies at the University of Rhode Island, and received her Master's in clinical mental health counseling from Western Connecticut State University.
Stasia treats children from the ages of 4-18, utilizing play therapy modalities, creative expression, art, movement, music, and psychodrama, and trauma-informed treatment. Stasia has a rare gift for connecting with children of all ages, and is able to establish meaningful rapport in order to ensure comfortability, safety, and collaboration.
